Storyline
Based on a true story, Desmond Doss, a conscientious objector battled at Okinawa without any firearms on/with him. He signed up to serve in the army as a Medic, to save lives. With his upbringing of never to resort to violence and a strong believer and faith in his religion, Doss entered the battle field armed with only medical supplies.

My Thoughts
I am one who doesn’t watch war, documentary or biography kind of movies. But with many good reviews and after watching the trailer, I decided to give it a go. I would say, it is the best war movie I’ve ever watched.

I would say Andrew Garfield portrayed the character perfectly. The faith he showed and the character’s determination to stand by what he believe.

However, the movie showed some gory scene which made me cringe. Although I know what I am in for when I decided to watch this movie, but I am not a fan for gore. So yes, those parts in the movie will make me cringe. But I would say they made it so real which I am quite amazed.

The movie inspired me and questioned my faith. I wished I was like Desmond Doss, stand up to what I believe in even though people may call me names.

Will I recommend this movie? If you need inspiration, yes you should watch this. This movie about a war hero inspired me so much that I wished I was as brave as him.

Storyline
A young boy fighting cancer wrote letters to God about his thoughts and prayers. This touches the lives in his neighborhood and community. Inspiring many¬†that he made contact with. A substitute postman who was assigned to his house’s route, happened to come across the boy’s letter to God. After reading the letter, the postman got inspired to seek a better life for himself and reconcile with his son that he lost through his alcohol addiction.

My Thoughts
I do have a very close grandaunt who lost the battle with cancer and I understand how much pain family members feel. This entire movie set me into thinking, if I were Tyler, would I be as brave as he was? Or will I be as brave as his mother and brother was?

I have to admit, I don’t have a very strong faith in religion. I stopped going to church due to work commitment. I work in the service line and have to work on weekends. There’s no church service during the weekdays. Excuses, I know. But I am amaze at how strong the faith and believe Tyler has for God. It made me ashamed as an adult for nothing having trust and faith in my own religion.

Despite his illness, he stood strong for people around him. He was so optimistic and positive. Kind, caring and forgiving. I probably wouldn’t have the same courage as he does. After watching this movie, it got me thinking to how fragile one live can be. So cherish it and the moments you have with your love ones. You will never know what might happen in the future.

Will I recommend this movie? Yes, definitely. But do prepare tissues, it made me cry buckets.

Director: Ron Clements, Don Hall, John Musker, Chris Williams

Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy, Family, Fantasy, Musical

Storyline
Moana Waialiki is a sea voyaging enthusiast and the only child to the chief with a long line of navigators. Due to her ancestors as navigators, Moana had the instinct within her to head out to sea for an adventure. She grew up listening to a legendary hero, Maui, told by her grandma. After a sudden plague of bad omen on the island where the fisherman couldn’t catch any fish and crops failed to grow, Moana knew what she had to do. To find Maui and restore the heart of the goddess, Te Whiti.

My Thoughts
When I watched the trailer, I got interested in this movie. The trailer that I’ve watched was vague and I have no idea what the storyline was prior to watching this movie. I just like little young Moana in the trailer to be honest.

You don’t need to be a demigod or super powers to venture out to the sea for an adventure that is so dangerous. With the right attitude and determination, you can achieve and reached the goal. This is something that I like about Moana. It’s easy to give up, but with motivation and being with the right person, you too can become someone great like Maui.

I love the songs in the movie. And I honestly enjoyed the songs more than the movie. I could listen to it all day long on repeat mode.

Would I recommend this movie? Yes, especially during family time. Watch it with your kids, they’ll enjoy it as much as I do.

However, she got betrayed where her heart began to turned into stone. With her mind set on revenge, Maleficent placed a curse upon the King’s new infant daughter, Aurora. Maleficent watches this little girl grow up and began to realised she’s the key to a peaceful kingdom.

My Thoughts
Like all Disney movie, there’s always a happy ending. For this movie, the happy ending was definitely a plot twist which I truly never expect it in the first place.

The movie taught me that a kind person who gets betrayed may turn changed into someone completely different. And that a person who acted kind towards you may have an ulterior motive from you. I have learnt not to trust people easily through this movie. Finally a movie from Disney that showed the reality of the world instead of all the fantasy it used to portray the world as.

As for the curse breaking magic, true love’s kiss. I am happy that this movie showed me something different. True love’s kiss comes in many form, it does not necessary comes from your partner in a relationship. It can be from a family member or someone close to you that is not related by blood.

Would I recommend this movie? Definitely. Absolutely.

Passengers

Movie: Passengers

Director: Morten Tyldum
Casts: Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Pratt, Michael Sheen
Genre: Adventure, Drama, Romance, Sci-Fi

Storyline
Jim Preston, boarded a starship for a journey of 120 years towards a new planet to call home. However, he got woken up from hibernation 90 years too early due to a malfunction error to his pod. Jim found himself a friend, Aurora, who was awake too. As they live their lives on board the starship with each other as company, they soon fell in love. Time went by, both Jim and Aurora realised their ship is in grave danger. With the lives of 5000 other passengers, they knew they had to do something to save them.

My Thoughts
Sci-fi movie isn’t something I would like to watch. However, since I saw the trailer for Passengers, I was intrigued and wanted to know more. And yes, finally I watched the movie and it’s kind of amazing actually.

I would have freaked out like Jim and Aurora when I wake up to find that I’m the only one. In fact, I wouldn’t be handling the situation as good as them. Maybe it will take awhile for me to settle down and realised I could do so much on the ship. Like strolling the entire place naked like Jim did. I definitely love the basketball court and swimming pool the best. It would be my frequent place to visit.

OK, back to the movie. I love the visuals and of course the realism that the movie has. Everything is base on reality and how one would feel waking up to an empty ship. However, it does make me feel that the movie is like a human version of Wall-E, except with different plot. Leaving earth on a space ship with all the facilities available, except their mission was different. It’s interesting in it’s own way where two humans have to figure out how to live on the starship as the only one alive.

Would I recommend this movie? Yup, for those Sci-Fi fanatic, this is a must watch.

Marley & Me (Movie)

Movie: Marley & Me
Release Year: 2008

Director: David Frankel
Casts: Jennifer Aniston, Owen Wilson, Eric Dane, Kathleen Turner
Genre: Comedy, Drama, Family

Storyline
After their marriage, John and Jennifer got a puppy after moving to Florida. As Marley grows, he has no self-discipline. Marley’s antics gave John the inspiration for his newspaper column. After starting a family of their own, Marley’s impulsive behavior never change and is constantly testing everyone’s patience.

My Thoughts
Before I watch the movie, I had read the book. But this entry is about the movie, so I will skip about what I think about the book and not compare it with the movie.

I like how the movie portray Marley. He can be crazy yet loving at the same time. It’s like how most dogs behave in reality.

This movie is a tear jerking one. So prepare lots of tissues if you haven’t watch it yet. Although the movie came out years ago, I am pretty sure there are some people out there who haven’t watch it. Or maybe the genre isn’t what they are keen in.

Marley & Me taught me that despite all the craziness and major changes in life, we shouldn’t give up on our four legged friend no matter how frustrated and stress we are. They are part of our family, they brought joys and frustration into our lives. And they definitely love us as much as we love them.

Will I recommend this movie? Definitely.
